Update on 40 Gbit/s

The presenter will give an update on 40G technology. This includes a short recap on transmission constraints and solutions as well as first results of a 40G test on a real-world fibre plant in the VIOLA network. He will also address constraints which result from combinations of 40G with technologies like ROADMs and 50 GHz WDM spacing, and the necessity to support upgrades of existing 10G links. The final part compares 40G vs. 100G, with respect to drivers, necessary effort, and again, interworking with 50/100 GHz spacing and ROADMs.
